- אִפֹּותִּיקִיf. (ὑποθήκη) 1) pledge, mortgage; an object made a security without being placed in the possession of the pledgee, opp. to מַשְׁכּוֹן.B. Kam.96a שווייה ניהליה א׳וכ׳ he made it a mortgage by saying, ‘You can pay yourself only out of this thing. Ib. 11b עשה עבדו א׳ if he mortgaged his slave; a. fr. 2) mortgage-document, deed.
